Garmin Perspective Touch Avionics Database Update Cycles
Having a powerful and feature-rich avionics system is probably the most powerful situational awareness tool jet pilots have at their fingertips. The Garmin based Perspective Touch and Perspective Touch Plus systems that come standard with SF50 Vision Jets ally with the pilot during highspeed jet flight operations.
As pilots advance into faster aircrafts, the avionics processing speed and data definition should increase proportionally. This is certainly the case with this avionics package.
That being said, no technology-based system will continue to operate optimally without the latest updates in firmware and databases. The Garmin based Perspective Touch platforms require ongoing chart and database updates to remain current. These updates are have cycles of 14 day, 26 day or 56 day intervals. The platform that manages these updates is known as JDM, or Jeppesen Distribution Manager. Jeppesen charts and databases are included as part of an aircraft’s JetStream contract. Contact us at 615-543-8553 or through this form to help you get this right. We can send you a checklist to follow.

Jeppesen Update Cycles
14-Day Update:
- Electronic Charts
28-Day Update:
- Navigation Data
56-Day Updates:
- Navigation Data
- Airport Directory Database
- Obstacles Database
- SafeTaxi Database
- Sectional Charts
There is essentially one recommended protocol for updates Garmin Perspective avionics charts and databases. This is through SD card file transfer. The process is not difficult once you do it a few times. We do not recommend performing charts/database updates unless you are familiar with the process and following a procedure specifically intended for your aircraft generation. G1 aircrafts have a different database updating process than G2 or G2+ aircrafts. Feel free to contact us for assistance.
What about Database Concierge through Garmin Pilot? It is not a recommended procedure according to Cirrus Aircraft.
Most of the SF50 fleet is equipped with Garmin Flight Stream 510 cards.
What about wireless database transfers?
Flight Stream 510 is a small, patented Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth®-enabled MultiMediaCard (MMC) that enables communication between the Garmin avionics and mobile devices in flight. The following features are provided by Flight Stream 510 cards.
Database Concierge: The capability that allows charts and database transfers from an iPad using Garmin Pilot. Unfortunately, this feature IS NOT recommended for SF50 operators due to large size of files being transferred and possible data corruption.
Two-Way Flight Plan Transfer: Seamlessly transfer flight plans to and from ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot to the avionics panel.
Stream Wireless Traffic, Weather, GPS and More: Provides amazing situational awareness for iPad users in the cockpit.
Connext SMS Texting and Calls from Garmin Pilot: Not supported by Garmin Perspective Touch avionics platforms.
